Farnborough is about six miles north of Farnham and we work there constantly. The town divides fairly neatly for our purposes: the older, leafier streets around Farnborough Park and Farnborough Hill, the interwar and postwar housing through Cove and Southwood, and the newer business districts near the airport.

Farnborough sits on Bagshot sand, and that shows in what grows here. Scots pine, birch and rhododendron dominate the older gardens, and the pines in particular get very tall very fast. A mature Scots pine in a Farnborough Park garden can easily reach 25 metres, and because they carry their weight high they are among the trees most likely to shed limbs in a gale. These are quick, straightforward jobs and we can usually turn them round promptly.

One local quirk worth mentioning: properties near Farnborough Airport sometimes sit under height and obstacle considerations, and there are occasions where tree height is a genuine operational matter rather than just a garden preference.
