Petersfield Heath, with its lake and its bronze age barrow cemetery, sits on very different ground - greensand rather than chalk - and the pine, birch and oak around it behave accordingly. Properties bordering the heath deal with the same self-seeding and encroachment issues we see at Yateley.

Out towards Sheet, Steep and Liss the plots are large and often include paddock or woodland, and the work becomes woodland management proper - thinning, ride clearance, coppicing and dealing with ash dieback, which has taken a heavy toll on the hangers.
